At a new stage in Wuhan’s accelerated push for new industrialization, the HUST Science Park is injecting sustained momentum into the city’s industrial transformation through its distinctive “industry–technology–talent integration” model.
Leveraging the university’s strengths in key disciplines, the park has successfully cultivated four specialized industrial micro-clusters: a laser industry cluster centered on HGLASER; an optoelectronics cluster represented by Elite Optronics; an intelligent manufacturing cluster led by Huazhong CNC and Zhongyuan Huadian; and a software and information technology cluster spearheaded by Tianyu Information. In recent years, companies such as Chake Technology and TrueLight 3D have been deeply engaged in AI-related innovation, continuously contributing to the advancement of intelligent manufacturing. Meanwhile, the arrival of hard-tech enterprises including SiLAI Semiconductor and Free Optics has further strengthened the industrial and innovation ecosystem of the park.
The park has pioneered a “1:1:1 Social Capital–Government Funding–Platform Operations” shared-risk mechanism, effectively removing proof-of-concept risk as a bottleneck to the practical application of research outcomes. The launch of the country’s first “University & Research Institute Proof-of-Concept Insurance” product, coupled with the successful listing and transaction of research outputs valued at over RMB 50 million, has brought the “Wuhan Model” for technology achievement commercialization into ever sharper focus.
To date, the park has generated employment for over 25,000 people, with R&D personnel accounting for 23% of the workforce. 121 talents under the Optics Valley 3551 Talent Program have put down roots here, incubating more than 500 project teams. Faculty and student teams have established over 100 companies within the park, and more than 5,000 students have completed internships and hands-on training here, creating a virtuous cycle of “talent driving innovation, innovation powering industry.”
As of the end of 2024, park-based enterprises have generated cumulative revenues of RMB 234.3 billion and remitted a total of RMB 16.2 billion in taxes. The number of high-tech enterprises, gazelle companies, and “Specialized, Refined, Distinctive, and Innovative” (SRDI) enterprises continues to climb — and a vivid picture of quality enterprises flourishing and distinctive industries scaling up is steadily coming into view.
