The Intelligent Connected and Electric Vehicle Industrial Park in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) was established in May 2015. Located in the southwestern part of the WEDZ, the park sits at the convergence of the Dongfeng and SAIC vehicle manufacturing bases, with direct access to the Yangtze River waterway. It serves as the core platform for the transformation and upgrading of Wuhan’s automotive industry.
The park focuses on three key sectors: new energy and intelligent connected vehicles (ICV), new materials, and intelligent manufacturing. It has been designated by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) as a National Intelligent Connected New Energy Vehicle Components SME Specialty Industrial Cluster, and has received multiple honors including “Hubei Province Key Growth-Stage Industrial Cluster” and “China New Energy Vehicle Components Industrial Base.” It is also the province’s first park to be recognized as a “All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC) Private Enterprise Science and Technology Innovation Park.”
The park has now attracted over 800 enterprises, forming a full-industry-chain ecosystem built around the pillars of “vehicle leadership, component support, digital enablement, and service integration.” Anchored by leading players such as Lotus Cars, XPENG, CALB, and HydraV, alongside key component suppliers including Japan’s Aiki Riotech and South Korea’s POSCO, the park has established a comprehensive system spanning the full value chain from R&D and manufacturing to supply chain services.
The park has achieved multiple breakthroughs in technological innovation: HydraV developed a 130kW fuel cell engine that became the first high-power hydrogen energy product in China to pass mandatory national inspection; Megatronix achieved single-chip integration of smart cabin and parking functions, which successfully obtained German automotive-grade (AEC) certification. The park has also co-established industry-education consortia with Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University of Technology, and other institutions, building a tiered talent development pipeline that incubates over 20 high-tech enterprises annually.
The park's business environment continues to improve: XPENG made successive additional investments within a single six-month period, while CALB has increased its investment four times over five years. The park provides over 5,000 units of talent apartments, has developed a “15-minute work-live circle,” and operates a dedicated channel to address school enrollment needs for senior executives' children. Throughout the year, 14 targeted enterprise service events were held.
