As China and France celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2024, the 18th edition of Festival Croisements also features a special presentation. On April 1, 2024, the 18th edition of Festival Croisements officially kicked off in Beijing, with 400 spectacular events scheduled throughout the year, spanning more than 30 cities and covering various fields, including visual arts, craft design, performing arts, music, film, digital technology, books, and thought-provoking discussions. In Wuhan, a wonderful showcase of French culture also unfolded. This vibrant exchange, bridging two continents, will continue to thrive and open a new chapter for the next sixty years of cooperation.

Sino-French Urban Space and
Public Facilities Design Workshop
In 2024, École Nationale Supérieure d'Art de Dijon (ENSA Dijon) and Hubei University of Technology once again collaborated to explore issues related to urban transformation and regional characteristics. From April 6 to 15, young artists from both China and France engaged in cross-disciplinary cooperation, creating public art installations that integrated art, design, and urban planning.
Orchestra Tour
The Orchestra of the Royal Opera of the Palace of Versailles made its first visit to China, launching a major tour across the country. On April 13, the orchestra performed a stunning concert at the Wuhan Qintai Concert Hall, featuring countertenor vocals and Italian music from the era of Louis XIV.
The Parisianer, le sport dans la ville Illustration Exhibition
100-meter hurdles on subway turnstiles, pole vaulting on Parisian rooftops, surfing on the Canal Saint Martin, rugby matches in grocery stores, frisbee games in bars, and fencing between fishermen… Sports are woven into the daily lives of Parisians! From April 20 to May 24, the illustration exhibition at Horizon South of Wuhan Tiandi echoed the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It showcased Parisians' sports routines while paying tribute to these important Olympic events.
Magnificent Culture Les Misérables
Invited by Magnificent Culture, French theater director and Director of the Théâtre National Populaire, Jean Bellorini, created a new Chinese version of Les Misérables, based on Victor Hugo's novel. All characters in the play were portrayed by Chinese actors, delivering the performance in Chinese. The third-person narrative, combined with poetic and minimalist stage effects, fully brought out the beauty of Hugo's language. The play was staged at the Wuhan Theater from April 27 to 28.
Street Giant Puppet Show - De La Fontaine
From May 4 to 5, the French giant puppet show De La Fontaine was performed at the square outside the east gate of the Yellow Crane Tower Park in Wuhan, Hubei. The French street theater company Archibald Caramantran brilliantly brought to life two classic fables by French writer Jean de La Fontaine: the Red Balloon and the Rooster and the Stork Romance, promoting cultural exchange between China and France.
Wuhan · encre et papier
From June 10 to July 9, the Sino-French cross-national duo art exhibition, Wuhan · encre et papier, was held at the Wuhan CapitaMall. The exhibition was a collaboration between French artist Pierre Cornuel and Chinese artist Tu Yinghui. One excels in ink painting, while the other specializes in traditional Chinese paper-cutting. Together, they merged these two traditional Chinese art forms, offering a fresh perspective on their impressions of Wuhan.
France-China New Media Exhibition
From June 16 to July 30, the France-China New Media Exhibition was held at the Wuhan Meilian Art Space, showcasing the latest works from four French artists and five Chinese artists. The exhibition featured over ten cross-media pieces, including virtual reality, video games, film, and interactive art. Participating artists included Ben Elliot, Deng Yuejun, Gao Wenqian, Jérémy Griffaud, June Balthazard & Pierre Pauze, Wu Ziyang, Wang Shuang, and Zheng Daden, among others.
Fête de la Musique
Founded in France in 1982, the Fête de la Musique is a popular large-scale music festival that features various music genres, including jazz, pop, rock, classical, and world music. In 2024, three French bands joined forces with six Chinese bands from cities like Wuhan, Beijing, Xi'an, and Weihai to perform. From June 22 to 24, they brought a spectacular audiovisual feast to the citizens of Wuhan, all free of charge.
French Film Panorama in Wuhan
From July 5 to 28, the Lumière Pavilions cinema at CapitaMall 1818 in Wuhan hosted a screening of eight recent French feature films and one short film. The renowned Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi served as the ambassador for the 2024 French Film Panorama, promoting cultural exchange between China and France in the realm of cinema and celebrating this special event with French film enthusiasts.
