Wuhan Tianhe International Airport is expected to handle over 5.9 million passenger trips during the 62-day summer travel rush, which will run from July 1 to Aug. 31, with daily flights projected to exceed 650, the airport said on June 30, 2026.
To meet travel demand, the airport has planned to expand its network, adding new or resumed domestic routes to hot tourist and summer resort destinations including Hami, Manzhouli, Yinchuan, Beihai, Huizhou, Kunming, Qingdao, and Dalian. The frequencies of international air services to Jakarta, Vientiane, Kuala Lumpur, and Seoul will be increased.
The airport has also enhanced its air-rail intermodal services. The high-speed rail service between Hankou Railway Station and the airport now runs on a commuter-style schedule, with the fastest trip taking 12 minutes and fares as low as 7 yuan.
In 2025, the airport handled over 1.16 million air-rail passenger trips, and the first half of 2026 saw 635,000, a 14-percent year-on-year increase, ranking first among airports in central China.
