Summer travel season is right around the corner. For expats in Hubei planning leisure trips, traveling back home, or connecting via Wuhan, here's useful news: Wuhan Tianhe International Airport has rolled out a full upgrade to its "Super Transfer" services, with more flights, better fares and smoother connections. We've rounded up the key details to make your summer journeys easier and more affordable.
More Flight Options for Summer Travel
From July to August 2026, the airport will operate over 650 daily flights on average, with total passenger traffic expected to exceed 5.9 million.
International & regional routes: Flights to Jakarta, Vientiane, Kuala Lumpur and Seoul will be newly launched or increased, bringing the total number of destinations to 24 — making trips to and from Southeast Asia and East Asia more convenient.
Domestic routes: More than 13 high-frequency express routes will remain in service. Flights to popular tourist and summer destinations including Hami, Manzhouli, Yinchuan, Beihai, Huizhou, Kunming, Qingdao and Dalian will also be added or increased.
On-site services have also been improved: dedicated check-in counters and security lanes for groups and children; full-process escorted service for unaccompanied minors with exclusive vests; express counters for late-arriving passengers; free air-rail shuttle buses increased from 10 to 12 daily trips for smoother transfers. Both T2 and T3 terminals have introduced a summer-themed fragrance for a more pleasant waiting experience.
Discounted Air-Rail Transfer Fares
In partnership with China Southern Airlines, Air China and China Eastern Airlines, the airport has launched exclusive air-rail intermodal discounts, helping you save on trips that connect flights with high-speed rail via Wuhan.
Passengers purchasing China Southern Airlines’ Wuhan Air-Rail Intermodal tickets can enjoy a direct discount of 60 or 120 yuan per economy sector, depending on fare class. Air China's equivalent product offers discount vouchers of the same value. Both are available on official airline apps, mini programs and OTA platforms; group bookings can also be made via travel agencies.
China Eastern Airlines has integrated air-rail options directly into its main ticket booking flow. When searching for flights, the system automatically shows combined high-speed rail + flight itineraries with total prices and discounts built in — you can book the whole journey in one step with no extra steps needed.
Fast Transfers with Free Perks
Backed by Wuhan's extensive high-speed rail network, Tianhe Airport offers industry-leading transfer efficiency and benefits in central China.
Quick connections: The Integrated Transportation Center is directly linked to Terminal 3 via a dedicated walkway, taking only 3–5 minutes on foot. High-speed trains between Hankou Station and Tianhe Airport run at bus-like frequency: 12 minutes one-way, fares starting at 7 yuan, 37 daily trips, covering a 3-hour travel circle across five neighboring provinces.
Free benefits for 48-hour transfers: The "Fly via Wuhan · Super Transfer" program covers passengers connecting within 48 hours, including free meals, free accommodation, free shuttle buses, free luggage storage, air-rail connections and baggage delivery services.
In the first half of 2026, air-rail intermodal passenger volume at Tianhe Airport reached 635,000, up 14% year on year, ranking first among all airports in central China.
One-Code Access: Scan to Unlock Transfer Benefits
Launched this year, the "Super Transfer One-Code Pass" eliminates the hassle of navigating multiple service counters.Simply scan the QR code via the Umetrip app or WeChat mini program, and you can activate membership benefits in 3 seconds — no forms, no verification codes. One tap unlocks over 20 services, including transfer perks, dining and hotel discounts, fast-track security and local city tour offers.For tight connections, the airport provides green lanes with free shuttle buses, dedicated staff pickup and baggage delivery. Minimum transfer time is just 45 minutes within the same terminal, and 60 minutes between terminals. Over 163,000 passengers have already joined the program.
Extra Touches for Smoother Travel
Beyond transfer upgrades, everyday travel has also gotten more convenient:
Domestic flight check-in cutoff time has been uniformly shortened to 30 minutes at both T2 and T3, making Wuhan the first airport of its size in China to fully adopt the 30-minute cutoff standard. For all China Eastern flights from Wuhan, plus select China Southern and Air China flights, passengers without checked baggage only need to clear security and reach the gate 15 minutes before departure.
The "Love Wristband" service offers dedicated assistance for the elderly, first-time flyers, honor groups and passengers in a hurry.
A "pet in cabin" service is now available: eligible cats and dogs can travel in the cabin with their owners, with dedicated staff support throughout the journey.
The terminal also hosts regular cultural events such as Chu intangible heritage exhibitions and Hanfu experiences, so you can get a taste of local culture while you wait.
