Upstream delivers clean water, downstream reciprocates with goodwill. Recently, the city of Wuhan paid 2025 annual ecological compensation funds to Xiaogan and Suizhou, located upstream of the Fuhe River Basin, in the amounts of 4.45 million yuan and 3.65 million yuan, respectively.
Since the three cities signed a watershed ecological compensation agreement in 2023, Xiaogan and Suizhou have received compensation for three consecutive years for meeting water quality standards, with cumulative amounts reaching 16.95 million yuan and 16.45 million yuan, respectively.
The Fuhe River is a first-class tributary of the Yangtze River and the third largest water system in Hubei Province after the Han River and the Qingjiang River. Flowing from north to south through Suizhou, Xiaogan, and Wuhan, it empties into the Yangtze River at Chenjiaji. The water quality of the Fuhe River directly affects the Wuhan section of the Yangtze River.
