From dawn to dusk, groups of dancers dressed in distinctive costumes, dancing to cheerful beats, shone in locations across the entire city of Wuhan, becoming a moving urban landscape. From May 31 to June 2, the first "Dance for Health" CMG Square Dance Competition Hubei · Wuhan Station) was in full swing. During the event, a professional team from CCTV followed and filmed the entire process, presenting a panoramic view of the vitality of mass and the cultural landscape of the River City, helping to upgrade the communication of the city's image.
This station was the first stop of the national city challenge, with multiple competing teams from provinces and municipalities including Shanghai, Zhejiang, Anhui, Shandong, Henan, and Hubei participating. The competition was divided into two major categories: square dance and fitness dance. After fierce competition, the Qiaokou District team of Wuhan and the Hongshan District team of Wuhan, representing Hubei, won the championships in the two categories respectively, and qualified for the national finals.
Unlike conventional indoor arena events, this competition broke the boundaries of venues, turning the entire city into a natural stage. The lens of the CCTV team, the competing teams successively visited classic cultural landmarks such as Yellow Crane Tower, Yangtze River Bridge, East Lake Greenway, and Guqin Terrace, as well popular cultural and tourism spots like Xian'an Fang, Pinghe Packaging Factory, Guishan North Road Art District, and Hanjiangwan Flower Field. With their agile moves blending and coexisting with the city's historical and cultural heritage and riverside natural scenery, they created a brand-new "sports + cultural tourism" event model.
For this competition, CCTV dispatched a professional filming and production team of nearly 100 people: "World Football" hosts Liu Jiayuan and Song Xueying jointly hosted the event; synchronized swimming champion Wang Ciyue, member of the Nine-Month Miracle group Wang Xiaowei, and renowned square dance industry expert Rao Zilong formed the expert judging panel; the General Administration of Sport of China selected senior national-level referees from across the country to judge on-site, ensuring fair and standardized scoring for the event.
In an interview the general director of the competition, Zhang Pengyu, said that this competition is a brand-new event co-founded by CCTV and the General Administration of of China. As it is the first time it is being held, CCTV has invested heavily in it, striving to build a good event brand. As Wuhan is the first stop of National City Challenge, the organizing committee started full-process filming and preparation on May 31, using the Hanjiangwan National Fitness Center Square as the event command center and main competition venue. Based on the general public, it built a national-level exhibition stage, and the winning original dances will be included in the official square dance promotion list of the General Administration of of China.
"Wuhan is a city of heroes and a beautiful city. Whether it is athletes, referees, or guests, everyone hopes to come to Wuhan to compete, so we set the first stop of event in Wuhan. In addition to focusing on the competition, we also took the competing teams to visit Wuhan's famous attractions and streets and, to experience Wuhan's life, culture, and food, and to present the most beautiful side of Wuhan to the national audience," he said.
The landing of this event in Wuhan provided a high-level exchange and exhibition platform for square dance and fitness enthusiasts from all over the country, continuously deepening the popularization and promotion of national fitness. More importantly, relying on CCTV's national-level all-media communication resources, it showcased Wuhan's urban vitality, historical heritage, and cultural tourism resources from multiple angles effectively enhancing the city's visibility and reputation for cultural tourism.
