Countdown begins for launch of Wuhan-Yichang railway line

Photos taken on Dec. 23, 2025 show local media groups boarding the trail train at the Hankou Railway Station in Wuhan, Hubei. The launch of Wuhan-Yichang section of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu high-speed railway is around the corner. Upon operation, the section is expected to reduce the travel time between Wuhan and Yichang from over two hours to 69 minutes. The 313-kilometer line runs from Wuhan through Tianmen and Jingmen to Yichang. With bridges and tunnels accounting for 85 percent of its length, the route is designed for a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour.
