Wuhan's foreign trade grows 22.3 pct in H1

Wuhan's total import and export volume stood at 214.27 billion yuan in the first half (H1) of this year, marking a growth rate of 22.3 percent, the highest among China's 19 sub-provincial and higher-level cities, official data showed.

Exports of high-tech products such as smartphones, tablets, integrated circuits, and display modules rose by 4.7 percent, 46.9 percent, 16.1 percent, and 60.4 percent, respectively, contributing to 17-percent growth in the city's optoelectronic information industry.

During the first six months, Wuhan dispatched four trade delegations to the U.S., Germany, the U.K., and other countries to promote local products. It has also expanded its overseas service network, adding 8 new economic and trade offices in countries including the UAE and Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the city witnessed increasingly prosperous cross-border e-commerce. Walmart inaugurated its Wuhan office dedicated to cross-border e-commerce business during the period. Cross-border e-commerce projects such as AliExpress' Wuhan industrial park and Russian e-commerce giant Wildberries have also established operations in the city in recent years.

In the third quarter, Wuhan will organize three more trade delegations to Vietnam, Malaysia, Brazil, and other countries to explore international markets. Policy measures on stabilizing global logistics and easing high shipping costs for businesses are expected to be issued to ensure new momentum for high-quality foreign trade growth.
