Wuhan launches trans-Caspian freight route to Georgia

A train, carrying light machinery, agricultural vehicles, construction materials and other goods worth approximately 14.82 million yuan, departed from Wuhan for Georgia on May 24, 2025.

It is a new trans-Caspian link between Wuhan and Georgia operated by the China-Europe freight trains, introducing an innovative "rail-sea-rail" multimodal transport route.

The outbound train is expected to take 18 days to arrive in Poti and Tbilisi in Georgia by rail, after leaving the country via the Khorgos Port, running across Kazakhstan and traversing the Caspian Sea by ferry from Aktau Port to Baku, Azerbaijan.

Georgia, a key node on the Silk Road Economic Belt, serves as a vital gateway connecting Europe and Asia. The launch of this route not only opens a new logistics channel for exporters but also strengthens economic and trade ties between Hubei Province and Georgia, Türkiye and their neighboring regions.

So far, the China-Europe (Wuhan) freight trains have been able to transport goods to 120 cities in 40 countries via 58 regular cross-border routes, forming a comprehensive international intermodal transport system connecting Europe, Central Asia, ASEAN member states, Japan and South Korea.
