Wuhan ranks among China's top 10 cities for food tourism

Wuhan, capital city of Hubei Province, was listed among China’s top ten cities for food tourism at the 2023 China Food Tourism Development Forum on September 16, 2023.

The forum, jointly hosted by the China Tourism Academy, the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and the Binzhou Municipal People’s Government, unveiled China’s top ten cities, streets and enterprises for food tourism. Beijing, Changsha, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Shunde District of Foshan City, Wuhan, Yangzhou, Quanzhou and Kaifeng were recognized as the top ten cities.

As a city of gastronomy, Wuhan boasts Wuhan-style breakfasts as the hot-dry noodles with sesame paste, doupi (a pan-fried delicacy of glutinous rice and minced meat), soup buns and Chinese salty doughnut, renowned delicacies as Wuchang fish, crayfish, duck’s neck, soup of pork ribs and lotus root, and Hongshan brassica campestris, traditional restaurants as Laotongcheng, Sijimei, Cailinji, Xiaotaoyuan and Wufangzhai, and specialty streets as Hubu Lane, Liangdao Street, Jiqing Street, Cedar Road and Rose Street.

In recent years, Wuhan’s food culture has been explored in depth. Food elements have become indispensable in construction of nighttime consumption clusters, characteristic blocks and commercial complexes. Authentic local delicacies have become a shining calling card of Wuhan’s tourism.
