Cultural relics relating to Dragon Boat Festival in Hubei

The Dragon Boat Festival, also called the Duanwu Festival, is traditionally celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month on Chinese lunar calendar. The festival falls on June 22 this year.

The history of Dragon Boat Festival originates numerous claims, among which, commemorating the great patriotic poet in Chinese history Qu Yuan has the widest impact. Hubei will hold celebrations for the festival every year in Zigui County - Qu Yuans hometown.

In September 2009, the Dragon Boat Festival was formally inscribed into UNESCO's World Intangible Cultural Heritage List, becoming the first Chinese festival to be included. 

There are many cultural relics that are collected by the Hubei Provincial Museum and Zigui County Museum reflecting the change of the Drangon Boat Festival since ancient China. 

Originally built in 820 during the Tang Dynasty, the Qu Yuan Temple (屈原祠) was built in remembrance of the great patriotic poet Qu Yuan.
