
On Feb. 7, the official website of Hubei Development and Reform Commission announced the plan for Wuhan New City. Breaking traditional administrative divisions, it straddles between Wuhan and Ezhou. On Jan. 31, construction officially started.
The planned area is about 719 square kilometers, extending from the Ezhou-Xianning Expressway in the east to Liangzi Lake in the south, to the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway in the west and to the south bank of the Yangtze River in the north. The reserved area for future plans extends beyond Liangzi Lake, which is about 1,689 square kilometers.
