On September 12, two solo exhibitions, namely "The Extraordinary Visions of Mental Maps--Markus Lüpertz in China" and "Overlooking Heaven and Earth--Zhou Shaohua" kicked off at the Art Museum of Hubei Institute of Fine Arts. Artists, art critics and audience from around the world attended the opening ceremony.

The two exhibitions are jointly organized by Hubei Provincial Department of Culture, Hubei Federation of Literary and Art Circles and Hubei Artist Association.

This is the first time that Lüpertz's art is presented in central China. The 104 exhibited works of Lüpertz are from the MAP collection, which is definitely one of the biggest Lüpertz collections worldwide. The exhibition allows a comprehensive survey over his development as an artist from the 1960s until today by presenting different phases of his artistic production and offering insights in his chosen themes and world of thought.

On the contrary, the Wuhan-based artist Zhou Shaohua have held many exhibitions and donated works beyond Hubei province in recent years. This exhibition, which brings together 92 pieces of Zhou's art works, is a relatively comprehensive retrospective on his artistic creations in recent three decades.

The two exhibitions will last till October 20, 2017. According to the organizers, a parallel exhibition will be held in Germany in 2018.
